THE German energy firm which wants to build a huge windfarm in the Yorkshire Dales has gone back on its promise not to appeal against planning permission refusal - but local residents are determined to fight on to have the project stopped.
EnergieKontor wants to build five wind turbines the height of Big Ben on the fringes of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but had promised it would not appeal if there were local objections to the scheme – of which there were hundreds.
But although planning permission was refused by Craven District Council, the company has gone back on its word and a public enquiry will be held in the near future. The objectors were led by the Friends of Craven Landscape, who issued a statement at the weekend saying that although they were disappointed, the fight will go on.
The friends are appealing for people to come forward with reasons to oppose the plan and hope to pay expert witnesses to prepare their legal case. But this will cost money so they are appealing for sponsors to join the fight.
