A YORKSHIRE DALES based specialist wine outlet is set to combine the continental with the oriental later this month with a mouth watering food and drink event.
The Wine Cave in Hetton has announced the Alsace and Oriental evening at the Angel Inn with Eric Kientzler of Domaine Keintzler in Ribeauville Alsace hosting the evening in which Chef Mark Taft will be pitting his Oriental cookery skills against the Alsace wines.
Included in the evening will be a fantastic rare opportunity to taste a twenty four year old Grand Cru Reisling, along with a Gewurztraminer - another Riesling Reserve - and a Gewurztraminer Vendage Tardive.
Alsace wines are synonymous with rich aromatic and complex fruit flavours and are therefore a perfect accompaniment to Thai and Oriental food.
To find out more about Oriental food Pascal Watkins of the Wine Cave and Mark Taft, Head Chef at the Angel Inn dined at The Orchid Restaurant at the Studley Hotel in Harrogate. The Orchid is home to Chef Kenneth Poon, who at one time worked at the Oriental Restaurant at the Dorchester, the first Michelin starred Chinese restaurant in Europe.
"The meal was excellent and we had a bottle of Gewurztraminer from the Trimbach Estate in Alsace. Mark was so impressed with Gewurztraminer as a wine that he commented that he could happily drink a wine like that every night."
Pascal added: "The word 'Gewurz' means spice, and describes the grape perfectly, which makes it no wonder that Gewurztraminer is so well matched to Oriental food."
The cost of the evening will be £35 per person which includes wine with the meal.
