The excitement of Christmas has passed and the bills have started to roll in, with 20 January predicted to be the most miserable day of the year. In response to this, and the financial crisis in the UK, a national charity has today announced that it will be offering local residents in Skipton the chance to get their finances back on track with their free money management course, CAP Money.
Christians Against Poverty, the national debt counselling charity, is running the free course over 3 evenings in the town, in partnership with Skipton Baptist Church. Around 500 churches in the UK are running CAP Money courses throughout February and March offering those struggling financially an opportunity to revolutionise their approach to money management.
Teaching good money management skills, budgeting tips and overall advice on how to curtail expenditure, the course is open to everyone, whether they’re Christian or not. The course begins on Thursday 28 January for 3 evenings and will be held at the new Skipton Children's Centre on Brougham Street.
Specially-trained CAP Money Coaches will be on hand to lead the sessions and offer practical advice. Whilst the course includes the feature of providing access to CAP’s full debt counselling service for those with acute financial difficulties, it is designed also for those who are not in debt but just want to manage their money even better.
Mike Lord, CAP Money Coach, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer the CAP Money course in Skipton for the first time, especially at such a difficult and financially challenging time of year, when many will start to feel the filter-through effect of overspending at Christmas and increased credit card bills.
“Through the course we aim to bring assistance to those in the local community with financial concerns. Whilst many in the UK are still reeling from the recession we are hoping that, with the principles advocated in the CAP Money course, many will pick up useful financial skills that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives and possibly be saved from slipping into debt.”
