BUDDING cyclists are being urged not to miss out on the last lot of free guided bike rides taking place in Pendle over the next couple of weeks.
They’re part of Pendle’s annual Cycle Fest which has seen an exhilarating line-up of cycle events over the past few weeks. The Freedom Guided rides, as they’re known, are suitable for beginners and families and will take place on the 15th and 24th August.
Cyclists should meet at Seedhill Athletics Club on Saturday 15th August at 1.00pm for a 13-mile guided ride to Greenberfield Locks and back. Bikes can be borrowed on this route – just call 01282 661315 before the day to reserve one.
If you prefer an evening ride, meet at 6.00pm at Wheels within Wheels on Norfolk Street in Nelson for a 14-mile ride along the canal towpath to Barnoldswick and back.
The rides will be led by trained guides Wayne Bowman from Pendle Leisure Trust and Imran Aslam from Wheels within Wheels - Nelson’s voluntary organisation for young people.
Imran would like to encourage those new to cycling to give it a try. He said: “You don’t have to be a pro to enjoy on- and off-road cycling around Pendle.
“We take the rides at your pace and give you all the help and encouragement you need.
“Leading the rides is a personal achievement for me as five years ago I had never cycled and was seriously overweight. I hope I’m an inspiration to other people to get out and ride.”
Wayne, one of Pendle Leisure Trust’s Community Walking Officers, added: “Why not give your fitness a boost, enjoy some of the local countryside and meet new people at the same time?”
Anyone can go along, just turn up ten minutes before the start of the ride at the meeting point with a bike, sandwiches and money for a brew.
