Rock art, mining landscapes and textile mills are among a whole host of topics that will be covered at a special archaeology day school organised by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) on Saturday April 17.
More than 160 people have so far booked a place at the event, which will be held in Grassington Town Hall from 10am to 4.30pm, according to Robert White, the YDNPA’s Senior Conservation Archaeologist.
“This is the tenth annual event and it is still as popular as ever, which shows just how interested people are in the historic environment of the National Park,” he said.
“It is a good opportunity to learn more about the fantastic history and landscape of the Yorkshire Dales and the work of individuals and groups to protect, record and conserve it.”
Speakers will include experts from Lancaster University, the YDNPA, the Ingleborough Archaeology Group, the Yorkshire Museums Trust and the Swaledale and Arkengarthdale Archaeology Group.
The day school usually attracts an audience that ranges from university students and lecturers to local history societies and interested individuals.
There are still a few places available and tickets cost £10 (£7.50 for full time students and YAS members) which includes refreshments but not lunch. Anyone wanting further information or to book a place should telephone 01969 652353 or e-mail herinfo@yorkshiredales.org.uk.
