Grassington Players forthcoming Spring production promises to appeal to Dalesmen and fellow Yorkshiremen alike with a story that is very close to home.
Originally written for the Yorkshire folk choir Baccapella, Follow the Fleece tells the story of Dales sheep farming and how it helped Bradford to become world famous in the woollen industry. From mediaeval times through the industrial revolution to present day and with historical characters from Shakespeare to Titus Salt, the tale is told through song and narrative.
Featuring some familiar songs alongside original material, the flavour of Follow the Fleece is folk music; ‘of the people’ – from Greensleeves to Springsteen.
Grassington Players have added drama to the original choral piece, calling upon the talents of the dales theatrical community and beyond, with a cast of 30 singers and actors from across the area.
Follow the Fleece will be performed in the main Town Hall in Grassington (the Devonshire Institute) at 7.30pm on Thursday 22nd, Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th. Tickets £7 – adults, £4 – concessions, are available from Helen Midgley on 01756 752579.
