People who want to delve into their family histories are being offered some top tips on how to go about it from an expert.
‘Family History for Beginners’ offers a detailed exploration of first steps in tracing your family tree, covering research techniques, and exploring sources such as census returns, civil registration records, parish registers, and many more.
Led by Jackie Depelle, an experienced family history tutor, the event will be held at the County Records Office in Northallerton on Saturday, January 22, from 10am until 4pm. It will include advice on how to research family histories, and a practical session in the archive searchroom.
“Finding out about your family’s roots can be one of the most interesting and rewarding of all activities, and our expert help will set you off in the right direction,” said County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, Executive Member for Adult and Community Services.
The cost of the session is £25, including light refreshments and a buffet lunch.
Advance booking is essential, by calling the Record Office on 01609-777585, or by email to archives@northyorks.gov.uk.
