It’s census time this March, and the team behind the once-a-decade exercise are looking to recruit people in rural areas to make sure things run as smoothly as possible.

There are a range of temporary and full-time roles for those looking to make a bit of extra cash, with 29,000 census collectors wanted in more than 2,000 parts of England and Wales. In short, there’s a great chance of finding work close to home.

Those picked will collect the completed questionnaires and assist where required.

The census will take place on March 27 and the posts will last from six to eight weeks, depending on location. Different hours are available, 15, 25 or 37 a week, and pay will range from £7.41 - £10.42 per hour.

The census is organised by the Office for National Statistics and provides a lasting snapshot - but it's far from just an exercise for the historians. Many of the services we take for granted every day depend on it and that’s why ensuring those in the countryside have their say is so vital.
