Unique play at Herriot Centre
A UNIQUE new play might have performed to one if its smallest audiences this week – but the Yorkshire Dales venue was packed to capacity.
The tiny foldyard at The World of James Herriot in Thirsk was transformed into a theatre as 41 people packed in to watch a special presentation of a play which recounts the life of Alf Wight as a young vet.
The Badapple Theatre Company’s rendition of ‘An Honorary Yorkshireman’ premiered in village halls across Yorkshire earlier this year – but it is the first time it has come to Thirsk and to Alf’s former home and workplace.
It was the second stop on a 12 venue tour for Kate Bramley’s new play which focuses on the early years of the Herriot career as a vet in rural North Yorkshire. Northumberland born theatre and TV actor, Phil Yarrow (pictured at the Herriot Centre), plays the young Alf.
“This was a very exciting stop in the tour,” said Kate. “We had a sell out audience with the evening heightened by the surroundings. It was a very special event for us and we were delighted with the audience response.”
