Anthony Fitzherbert in Afghanistan
What do you expect when you travel? Elegant holidays, sun, sand and sex? Or do you like roughing it?
On Saturday 19th September the Sedbergh Festival of Books and Drama will host distinguished travellers who definitely expect to be ‘roughing it’ when they travel.
Anthony Fitzherbert, Mark Ellingham, John Hatt and Barnaby Rogerson will be telling traveller’s tales of their adventures in ‘far away places with strange sounding names’ and in particular places with Arab culture. Anthony and Barnaby are experts on Arab culture and love the near and middle east but are well aware of the difficulties most people have with those parts of the world at present.
Mark Ellingham started that bible of cheap and adventurous travel the Rough Guides and John Hatt has toughed it out for Tatler with the rich and famous.
An evening of talks chaired by a professional soldier promises to offer the chance to ask those burning questions and learn from those who really have been, ‘out of the comfort zone!’
