THE streets of Hambleton are being given an early spring clean this month – despite the wintry weather!
With collections of green compostable waste suspended throughout February, staff are being transferred onto cleaning duties.
Litterpicks along the main A1 and A19 as well as the town centres will take place – with problem lay-bys along the A1 given a thorough clean up. Sandbags will be refilled to replenish supplies at both the Northallerton and Stokesley depots as well as those in villages across the district.
“During the months of January and February collections of green waste are suspended – apart from one visit to take Christmas trees,” said Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Bob Baker.
“Householders leave very little green waste out at this time so rather than see pointless collections take place we have diverted the men onto other duties – some have even taken the opportunity to take annual leave at this time.
“Hambleton is getting an early spring clean which we hope our residents will appreciate.”
Collections of black bins are unaffected by this work – they continue as normal on weeks commencing February 9 and 23, Collections of green waste restart on week commencing March 2.
