Winning band, Westfalia
HARROGATE based band, Westfalia, took top slot in the second ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition held last week in one Yorkshire dales district.
Eleven local bands showcased their talents before 300 young people at the Hambleton Forum.
Background Boy, Taylor’s Secret, Jagged Union, Bezzera Breakdown, Paul Randles and the Love Handles, Chasing Hound, The Young Believers, El Che and Parallax played at the April 25 contest – with Taylor’s Secret and Parallax joint runners up.
It was the third in a series of four ‘battles’ being organised by Hambleton District Council and sponsored by Broadacres as part of its commitment to young people in the community. CYC (Connecting Youth Culture) provide technical support at the events.
And the event saw a panel made up of some of the performers decide which band should takes the top prize! That panel included Rich Huxley from Four Day Hombre, a professional musician who is part of a mentoring scheme for young up and coming bands in North Yorkshire.
“Working with Broadacres means we can provide fun and entertaining events for local young people in a controlled environment,” said Arts Development Officer, Kate Staines.
“Its support means we are able to provide a great night without the need for high entrance fees which can be a barrier to many young people.”
