Jennifer Tetlow stonecarving – Soapstone Otter
The autumn 2009 programme at the newly refurbished Courthouse in Thirsk has now started with a wide range of workshops, performances, exhibition and events and hopefully, something for everyone! Rural Arts are keen for people to come and see the facilities and take part in the wide range of events on offer.
Throughout October there is an exhibition of work by stone carver Jennifer Tetlow www.jennifertetlow.co.uk
The exhibition will be open Monday – Friday (9.30am – 4.30pm). There will also be an opportunity for people to try stone carving as Jennifer is running two weekend courses - places still available on the first one (10th and 11th October). The second course is fully booked. The 2-day course costs £50 plus £10 minimum for materials.
During October and November there will be life drawing, French conversation and various artist led workshops including felt making, embroidery, basket making, mosaic, jewellery, automaton, collograph and ceramics.
In the new media studio Rural Arts are running a series of introductory weekend computer courses – from Introduction to Mac to using video and photoshop on your computer. Digital photography courses will also take place on Saturday mornings starting on 7th November.
Those who are new to the internet can also book a place on the free UK Online sessions held every Monday morning (10.00am – 12 noon) to help get you started and give you confidence in using the internet.
Children are also catered for with our monthly After School club sessions taking place on 22nd October and 19th November and the Big Draw event on Sunday 18th October. There is also a delightful puppet performance by Freehand Theatre – Who’s Been Sitting in My Chair on 3rd December (for children aged 3-7 years).
Performances start with History Wardrobe’s hugely popular presentation of “Undressing Mr Darcy” (16th October)
Comedian Dominic Holland (7th November)
The outrageously funny “Mystery of Irma Vep” (26th November)
And a wide range of music – three concerts from In The Dock promotions
Edwina Hayes in Concert (14th November) and “The Rat Pack Cabaret night” in December.
A range of events at The Courthouse include “Get it On In Your Village” – aimed at encouraging village communities to promote live theatre in their venues, The Royal Forestry Commission AGM talk - “Addressing Climate Change” and an Art and Vintage Fair in December.
The gallery has a selection of reasonably priced jewellery, ceramics, glass and textiles for sale – feel free to call in and have a browse.
The venue has full disabled access and facilities and Rural Arts are keen to accommodate people who have special requirements – to discuss these please call in advance.
