HARROGATE'S aspiring artistes and sporting stars of the future have just a few days remaining to apply for a grant that could set them on their way to success.
The Borough Council's Centenary Grants awards scheme was set up to celebrate the authority's centenary in 1984 - many hundreds of talented young people have benefited from the fund since its inception.
Nearly 450 talented individuals have benefited with many young participants going on to compete at a national level. Last year, the youngest recipient was a 10-year-old rhythmic gymnast and dance student, who competed in the national grades finals for rhythmic gymnastics.
In all, 35 talented young performers were awarded a total of £3,500 to help them progress in their chosen pursuits.
Application forms for this year's grants can still be obtained from Heads of PE or Musical Departments in local schools, libraries, leisure centres or from Leilah Vyner, Project Development Officer, on 01423 556702.
Forms must be returned to Leilah Vyner at Harrogate Borough Council by Monday 12 February.
The applications will be considered in March by two specialist panels - one covering the arts and the other sporting applications.
