Bikers are to be given the chance to improve their bike-handling skills this week when North Yorkshire Police team up with the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
All bikers, regardless of their experience, are invited to attend the riding skills event in Bellerby near Leyburn on Saturday (11 July).
Hosted by Northallerton Advanced Bikes (Institute of Advanced Motorists) and supported by North Yorkshire Police, the event will bring together bike enthusiasts and highly trained motorcyclists to share knowledge and skills with the aim of improving bike-handling and safety.
Tom Vickers, Chairman of the North region of the Institute of Advanced Motorists and Secretary of Northallerton Advanced Bikes said: “The day will be an opportunity for like-minded bike enthusiasts to get together, share experiences and improve their bike-handling. Riders will be able to take part in assessed rides during which their riding will be observed and tips given to improve on their existing skills for free.”
Sergeant Richard Barnes who is helping to coordinate the day, added: “We want to encourage all bikers to improve their riding skills and take up further training. The event will provide a friendly and informal opportunity for bikers to get together and get tips from advanced bikers and police-trained riders.
“With its challenging roads and great scenery, North Yorkshire is a magnet for bikers. We want everyone to enjoy the county but at the same time stay safe. Improving your riding skills is a great way to ensure you are prepared for any challenging situations you may find yourself in.
The event is free and will take place between 9:30am and 4pm at Auto-Moto Racing, Manor Farm, Bellerby, Leyburn, DL8 5QH.
Riders can also pick up free copy of bike-handling DVD ‘Great Roads, Great Rides’.
