Funding for Dales based digital arts project

[Thursday 06 July 2006]

YOUNG people in Thirsk will soon be learning some technological wizardry thanks to a Lottery funding boost for a Yorkshire Dales based arts project.

Receiving funding for 'Digital Futures' will enable us to give young people living in rural areas of North Yorkshire chances to take part in multi-media activities which will be specially designed to match their particular
interests

Jane Redfern - Rural Arts

'Digital Futures' is a three-year multi media training scheme that aims to provide new opportunities within the creative technology sector. The £112, 000 project, launched by Rural Arts North Yorkshire, will give local youngsters the chance to gain skills in graphics, music production, sound, video, film and animation by working on long-term assignments.

The Rural Arts funding is part of a wider £874,000 funding package announced by the Big Lottery Fund and is aimed particularly at young people.

The money comes from the Young People's Fund programme, which supports projects that work with young people to create activities that will give them a positive focus, sense of achievement, and the opportunity to develop vital life skills for the future.

Awards are made to specifically support projects that work to combat social exclusion, and help open up new horizons for disadvantaged young people across the Yorkshire region.

Jane Redfern, Rural Arts Fundraising and Marketing Manager, said: "Receiving funding for 'Digital Futures' will enable us to give young people living in rural areas of North Yorkshire chances to take part in multi-media activities which will be specially designed to match their particular interests.

"Rural Arts will be working across North Yorkshire, especially in Hambleton and Selby."

If your group is interested in taking part in the project, call Jane on 01845 526536 or visit www.ruralarts.org
