A GROUP of artists from the Harrogate and North Leeds areas have taken up the invitation to feature their work in the Bainbridge offices of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) for the next two months.
They become the latest artists to take advantage of the exhibition space in the reception area of the Authority’s Yoredale offices from tomorrow (7 May) until 30 June.
soSOBA arts is a collaborative group of artists who met while studying together and who live and work in the Harrogate district.
Their work covers all areas of the visual arts and includes paintings in oils, acrylic, watercolour and mixed media, alongside drawing, print and textiles.
Richard Burnett, the YDNPA’s Head of Finance and Resources, said: “Yet again the reception area at Yoredale will be showcasing some very local and very striking work.
“We have had a hugely varied selection since we first started inviting artists to exhibit in January last year and the reaction we have had from visitors has been extremely positive and encouraging.
“This latest display is, in itself, a collection of different styles and approaches, and we hope it will prove to be as interesting for both visitors coming to the offices on business and for people who come specifically to see what is on show.”
The group’s unusual name developed from a conversation they had about the so-called Young British Artists – a diverse group from the late 1980s that included Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.
They explained, “We thought we could be the society of Slightly Older British Artists! It was a bit of fun, but it has stuck!”
