A free minibus service is to continue to be provided by North Yorkshire County Council for people in Catterick Village whose local Post Office has been temporarily closed. The service, which runs every Monday, provides villagers with a link to the Post Office branches in Brompton-on-Swale and Scorton.

The provision of the service follows an intervention by Councillor Carl Les, the local member for Catterick Bridge.

"The closure of the Post Office in Catterick village was a serious problem for many people, particularly those with mobility problems," said Councillor Les.

"So we established a bespoke service to and from a neighbouring Post Office on one set day every week. The bus service will now continue up to and including the month of January."

The service, provided by Bedale Minibus, began in September and has been extended while Catterick Village Post Office remains closed.

"This is a short-term answer to a pressing local problem, which will only be satisfactorily resolved when Post Office Ltd reopen a branch for the villagers at Catterick," added Councillor Les.

The free bus service will alternate weekly between Brompton-on-Swale and Scorton. It will leave the bus stop in Catterick Village High Street at 10am, giving passengers 30 minutes to complete their Post Office business.

The service will run for four Mondays from January 10th.
