Despite costing £3 600 a day to keep the service flying, the Air Ambulance receives no direct government funding and is the beneficiary of what has become an annual fundraising event by Harrogate based interior design company, James Brindley.
The service depends upon the fundraising support of individuals, organizations, donations and the fundraising work of local companies like James Brindley.
Although it receives a small amount of government funding in the form of the paramedics seconded from the NHS, it relies entirely on the people of Yorkshire to get it in the air and keep it flying.
The crew can be airborne in two minutes and travel at up to 154mph to the scene of emergencies, and are able to access areas that are difficult or impossible for road ambulances to reach.

The crew attend well over 1000 emergencies each year and their yellow Explorer helicopter is a common sight in the skies above the Yorkshire Dales.
Richard Grafton, who runs James Brindley of Harrogate with his brother, Simon, explains: "Many of our customers live in the rural areas of the county where the Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides a vital lifeline in emergencies.
"It made sense to make this autumn's Christmas Preview event in aid of their efforts."
