email this page to a friendHOUSEHOLDERS taking down their festive decorations are being urged to recycle their trees at one of a number of special collection points across the northern Yorkshire Dales.
More than 60 temporary recycling centres have been set up in villages and towns across Hambleton and Richmondshire to collect Christmas trees over the next two weeks.
Trees from Hambleton will then be reduced to chips by a mobile shredder ready to be used as compost on flowerbeds around the area.
Last year the scheme saved more than 1500 trees being sent to already over full landfill sites.
In Hambleton, trees can be left at the sites listed below until January 15th.
In Richmondshire, householders receiving a kerbside service for garden waste can leave their old tree out next to their green bin on collection day for the recycling crews to remove.
Alternatively, they can be taken to the recycling sites listed below until January 10th.
