January 2010 will be the ‘time’ for a fascinating new exhibition at Craven District Council’s Craven Museum and Gallery in Skipton. A wonderful display of grandfather clocks and watches will be accompanied by a multitude of facts and proverbs related to the passing of time, from the first hour glasses to modern harmonic oscillators.
Staff at the museum are hoping to uncover many stories about how telling the time has changed in the Craven area and would love to hear any historic anecdotes or farming traditions related to time. They would also like to hear from anyone who has moved into the area from another country and can tell them about time traditions from different parts of the world.
The exhibition, which will begin on 27 January 2010, promises to be an intriguing look at how we measure our lives. However, ‘time and tide wait for no man’ and January will soon be here so if you would like to contribute to the facts for the exhibition please contact the museum on 01756 706407 or museum@cravendc.gov.uk
