Support for school fundraising effort
A CAMPAIGN to raise £100,000 to help boost special education needs at a village school has won the support of its local MP.
The campaign to raise funds for Great Smeaton Primary School has won the backing of the Rt Hon William Hague MP and Hambleton District Council's Young Persons Champion, Cllr Caroline Nixon.
They recently visited the school to help launch the appeal where they met school governor Dr Richard Hixson, who is running the London marathon to raise money for the appeal.
The school wants to build a series of seminar rooms to teach children in small groups as well as provide facilities for children with disabilities and special needs.
"At the moment children with special educational needs are taught anywhere that's available - that could be in a corner of a classroom or even in a corridor," said Cllr Nixon.
"The school desperately needs more space to provide the children with the best learning environment possible".
"I am delighted to support this appeal and hope as many people as possible get behind it."
