Fun and games for the Halloween weekend

[Thursday 01 October]

Competitive youngsters are being invited to a games festival in Northallerton over the Halloween weekend.

Two days and nights of games and competitions will be hosted by North Yorkshire Police and partners on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October. Youngster will get the chance to win vouchers for Chips games store in the town, kindly donated by the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, Sunbeck Neighbourhood Watch, Broadacres Housing Association and Extended Schools.

The event is open to young people aged 11 to 18 and will be held at Northallerton College between 1:30pm and 9pm.

There are six different games categories: Guitar Hero, Fifa 10, Soul Caliber, Wii Bowling, Need for Speed and Dance Mat.

Those competing in each of the games will have their names drawn out of a hat and will play in leagues. The winner of each league will then go forward to the knockout stage to find a winner for each of the games . Prizes for first, second and third places will be awarded.

Sergeant Simon Wilson, of Northallerton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Last year’s event was a huge success with over 60 entrants, as well as people who came along just to watch. We are hoping that this year will see even more entrants.

“Not only did everyone who attended have fun but the aim of reducing anti-social behaviour was a clear success with the numbers of incidents being reported to us was vastly reduced. One of our partners, Broadacres, who record incidents of anti social behaviour did not receive a single complaint on either of the nights the event ran last year.”

All entrants get a free entry into a raffle with prize of vouchers to the value of £150, plus many other prizes donated by the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, Sunbeck Neighbourhood Watch, Broadacres Housing Association and Extended Schools.

Application forms can be picked up from the Allertonshire School, Northallerton College, Connexions or Maxwells on Northallerton’s High Street, Chips Store on Zetland Street or can be downloaded from www.gimi.co.uk

The closing date for entries is Tuesday 20 October 2009, which can be handed in at Connexions, Chips, Allertonshire or Northallerton College.
