VISITORS to a 'Woodland Celebration' Day later this month are being encouraged to make use of public transport and offered an alternative way to travel.
The celebration is organised by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and the charity has joined forces with bosses at the Wensleydale Railway to offer a greener transport alternative.
"Extra train services are being scheduled on May 19," said Ruth Annison, Chairman of Wensleydale Railway. "This will give visitors a longer day out in the National Park, as well as the chance for an 8 mile walk."
The guided walk will be available to join from Redmire Station to St. Joseph's Woodland, Aysgarth and the morning route will be led by YDMT's Trustee David Joy MBE who will meet visitors arriving at Redmire Station at 11.25 am.
The walk will follow a public footpath leading directly to the woodland. Once at St. Joseph's visitors can just relax or choose to take part in activities at the Trust's 'Woodland Celebration' hosted by YDMT and woodland owners David and Ann Kiely.
Walkers do need to be aware that the walk is moderately strenuous and suitable outdoor footwear should be worn. Of course, the other thing to remember is the 4 mile walk back to the station a little later in the day!
A leaflet about the 'Woodland Celebration' day will be available to download from the Trust's website www.ydmt.org or alternatively call the Trust's Clapham office for more information on 015242 51002.
Further information about the train times is available by ringing the Wensleydale Railway's information line: 08454 50 54 74 or by visiting their website www.wensleydalerailway.com
