As Gayle Mill, near Hawes gears up for the start of the season, starting on March 30th, there are opportunities for volunteers to join the team.
There are a variety of ways in which people can become involved and the principal opportunities are ideal for anyone who enjoys meeting others. For instance, Tour Guides take groups of up to 25 people around the historic Mill and explain to visitors how its role has changed and developed over more than 200 years. Receptionists also carry out a very important role welcoming visitors, selling admission tickets and Gayle Mill wood products.
“The Mill relies heavily on it’s volunteer workforce” explained William Lambert, Chairman of the Gayle Mill Trust. “They carry out numerous roles from meeting the public to making wood products and chopping wood for our bio-mass boiler. So there really is something to suit everyone.”
New volunteers will be provided with full training and familiarisation which will be tailored to suit their individual needs. There are also training sessions with the whole team providing an opportunity to meet fellow volunteers.
Anyone who would like more information and have an informal chat should get in touch with the Administrator at Gayle Mill by telephoning 01969 667320 or visit www.gaylemill.org.uk where there is a downloadable volunteer application form.
