Textile artists Jill Clay and Katie Chaplin will be running a series of workshops on Japanese arts and crafts at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes next month.

Subjects include silk painting, batik, Japanese patchwork, silk and washi (correct) paper box making, cord knotwork, mirror compact making and Japanese papercraft. The workshops will run between July 2 and July 28 alongside Jill and Katie's exhibition 'Silk and Bamboo', featuring silk paintings, vintage wedding kimono and Japanese artefacts.
The two both live and work in Richmondshire and paint on silk using Japan as their inspiration.
Jill, 41, takes her subjects and style from ukiyo-e woodblock prints, painting in a more traditional Japanese style using vibrant colours and minimalist compositions.
Katie, 26, uses some ukiyo-e ideas but also takes inspiration from her own photographs of geisha in Kyoto, representing them as independent, modern women.
Advance booking on all workshops is essential. Please ring 01677 450071 or email katie_c@tiscali.co.uk for a full list of dates.
