Preparations are underway for the annual Ladies Day at Ripon Racecourse on Thursday, 9th June.
Ripon has earned its reputation as Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse and is one of the most attractive courses in the country. On Ladies Day it is even more colourful providing an opportunity for everyone to indulge in luxury and show off their fashion flair, and this year the event acts as a fabulous forerunner to the much anticipated Ladies Day at Ascot being held for the first time at York Races later in the month.
Clerk of the Course James Hutchinson explains "Ladies Day at Ripon Races has traditionally been held on the same day as Royal Ascot Ladies Day, however we decided this year to pull the fixture forward which gives the Ladies a great opportunity to have a trial run with their outfits and hats and to attend both events."
James and his colleagues will also be looking out for two special people on the day - the Best Dressed Lady and the wearer of the Best Hat. The best dressed lady will win an unforgettable VIP day out at the races and the winner of the Best Hat competition will win a magnum of champagne and a large bouquet of flowers at a presentation on the bandstand in the Tattersalls enclosure.
The first race is off at 2.10pm and the final race on the action-packed card is at 5.10pm. The gates open at 12.10pm, so there is plenty time to enjoy the traditional Ripon hospitality available in the bars and restaurants around the picturesque course.
