YORKSHIRE DALES businesses are expecting a tourist boom in 2004 - boosted by the success of the Calendar Girls film.
The Country Land and Business Association has carried out a survey of its members nation-wide and all are expecting a good summer's business thanks to the good weather last year and problems on the international scene which are making people more reluctant to travel abroad.
But the Yorkshire Dales have their own extra-special weapon - the staggering worldwide success of the ladies of the Rylstone WI who posed nude for a calendar hoping to raise £5,000 for charity, a figure which is now touching £1 million.
The CLA survey shows that tourists are already coming to the Dales after seeing the film - and expects the trickle to become a flood as the weather improves.
CLA member Vanessa Roberts of the Kilnsey Park and Trout Farm says that British and American visitors in January had said their trip was a direct result of watching the film.
