New organic food guide for Yorkshire

Monday 22 November 2004

A Yorkshire Dales-based organic food centre has published a new guide to help discerning Yorkshire cooks and diners find shops and restaurants which provide locally produced organic food.

The county-wide guide provides valuable information about where to buy fresh, local and organic produce throughout the region, including details about farmers markets, farm shops and independent retailers.

Restaurants, cafes and hotels serving local and organic food are also listed as well as local organic farms that are open to the public.

Helen Black, of the Yorkshire Organic Centre, which opened recently on the Skipton Auction Mart site, commented: "Latest figures show that more people are buying directly from farmers and the directory is a must-have for anyone interested in keeping their money within the local community.

"The Organic directory lists outlets where organic produce is sold, from farm shops to restaurants. It is very user-friendly with all the outlets listed by region and there is an easy to follow key system for their additional facilities."

The Yorkshire Organic Centre has been established by the Soil Association to lead and support the development of organic food and farming across the region and is funded by Yorkshire Forward.

The Directory is available free of charge from the Yorkshire Organic Centre. To order a copy call: 01756 796 222 or email: info@yorkshireorganiccentre.org. For further details on the farms listed in the directory visit: www.yorkshireorganiccentre.org
