Yorkshire Dales Wine Tasting Festival

From the 17th to the 22nd of May, The Wine Cave at The Angel Inn, Hetton will be holding the Dales’ first ever wine tasting festival.

The Wine Cave is the newest addition to the ensemble at the Angel, a purpose built tasting cellar fashioned in the style of a French wine producer’s cellar and holds tutored tasting events for both private and corporate parties and is also host to the ‘Three Village Wine Society’ of Hetton, Cracoe and Rylstone.

The Wine Tasting Festival will be the first event of its kind, open to the public and will involve a different wine tasting on each night, with a tasting of eight wines, finishing with a special wine tasting lunch on Saturday 22nd May.

The weeklong event:

17th May "An Introduction to Wine Tasting." Dispels the myths surrounding wine tasting and wine descriptions. An informal introduction to wine, how it’s made, how to know if a wine is good or not. When is a wine corked?
£10 per person

18th May "Yorkshire Cheese and Wine Tasting." In association with Wensleydale Creamery. Wine is notoriously difficult to match with cheese. Should we always choose red? Guest speaker from Wensleydale Creamery with special explanation of how the cheeses are made.
£12 per person

Scalber Force

19th May "Burgundy Tasting". Discover the jewels in the crown of France’s wine country. Taste wines from small low yield producers who make wines typical of their terroir. Journey from Chablis in the North, through the Cote d’Or, and down into Macon and Beaujolais.
£12 per person

20th May "Terroir". The wines of Languedoc, with special guest speaker from Terroir wines, based here in the Dales. Discover some of France’s little known secrets from a region steeped in wine making since the Roman times.
£10 per person

21st May "Wine and Smoked Food Matching" A special evening with Rick Stein food hero, Jurg Bleiker of Bleiker’s Smoked Food House. Join us for a feast of the senses, lots of fun matching food and wine.
£15 per person

22nd May "Special Bordeaux Tasting and Beef Luncheon". A rare chance to taste some of Bordeaux’ top Chateaux’ second wines and Cru Classé greats along side each other followed by a Two-course lunch with local beef sourced from Lishmans of Ilkley……… and no doubt the odd cigar!
£35 per person

"This is the first event of it’s kind in the area. We’ve tried to give it a real ‘Dales’ feel by inviting other Yorkshire based, entrepreneurial companies to participate. The Yorkshire Dales has a lot in common with French rural areas such as Burgundy, both being reliant on farming. We hope the success of this event will mean we repeat and expand it and by doing so add to the cultural diversity of the region!" writes Pascal Watkins of The Wine Cave.
