SKIPTON Building Society top brass turned out in force to say farewell to one of their humbler retiring colleagues - caretaker Eric Whiteley, who has been looking after various society buildings for 23 years.
Despite his relatively lowly position, Eric was extremely popular - so Chief Executive John Goodfellow and other top executives turned up at the party. Mr Goodfellow presented Eric with holiday vouchers so that he can start his retirement in style.
Eric, 63, lives in Skipton with his wife, Elaine. Always a keen sportsman, he played cricket in the Craven League for Glusburn, Bradley and Embsay and football for Crosshills and Embsay.
Not wanting to lose his sporting connections after his playing days, he has had numerous roles, including secretary for Craven Referees.
Said Eric: "I have enjoyed my years with the Society. It's become a second home and I've made many friends along the way. I am looking forward to my retirement though, which will allow me to spend more time with my granddaughter."
