Calling local lovely ladies

Monday 07 June 2004

Fashion will be coming First at the races during the afternoon of Thursday June 17th as Ripon Racecourse holds its annual Ladies Day, this year welcoming Debenhams' debut as their fashion partner for the day.

Throughout the summer afternoon the acclaimed Harrogate department store will host a series of fashion shows in the specially appointed marquee near the winner's enclosure, featuring exclusive Designer at Debenhams collections with hair by Toni & Guy and make-up by Guerlain.

As well as providing some of the finest racing, Ripon's Ladies Day is always a festival of fashion. Clerk of the Course James Hutchinson explains "Ripon is known as Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse and is one of the most attractive courses in the country. On Ladies Day it is even more colourful as it's a chance for many of our guests to indulge in luxury and show off their fashion flair and favourite outfits."

James and his colleagues will also be looking out for two special people on the day – the Best Dressed Lady and the wearer of the Best Hat.

The best dressed lady and her partner will win an unforgettable VIP day out at the races. The package includes complimentary Club Stand tickets, a three course champagne lunch in the course's gourmet restaurant on the race day of her choice, plus a cosmetics goody bag from Debenhams to take home on Ladies Day.

The winner of the Best Hat competition will win a fabulous £250 shopping spree in Debenhams.

Tickets for Ripon's Ladies Day are on sale in advance this year from Debenhams store or can be purchased at the racecourse on arrival. On the day the gates open at 12 noon with the first fashion show at 1.30pm and the racing beginning at 2.10 pm. The final race on the action-packed card is at 5.40pm. Throughout the afternoon the course's big screen will also be showing all the action – on and off the track – from Ladies Day at Royal Ascot.
