Weather forecast fury

Tuesday 01 June 2004

HUNDREDS of small business owners in the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District were seething with anger today after yet another Bank Holiday weather forecast blunder.

At the end of last week, forecasts from both broadcasters and newspapers said there would be heavy rain for virtually all the weekend, with it being particularly bad on Bank Holiday Monday.

But although there was some rain on the Saturday, most areas had beautiful warm and sunny weather on both Sunday and Monday. Thousands of tourists failed to materialise - and business people were blaming the dire forecasts.

A public and restaurant owner in Lunesdale told Daelnet: "It is as quiet as an ordinary weekend. This has costs me several thousands of pounds in turnover."

And a Skipton shop-owner seethed: "It's a shame that you can't sue these people. They seem to get it wrong all the time when we have a Bank Holiday."
