VOLUNTEER workers are being sought this weekend to help clear ancient woodland near one of the most famous sites in the Yorkshire Dales National Park - Aysgarth Falls in Wensleydale.
No tree felling will take place - most of the woodland is protected - but urgent work is required to clear footpaths through the ancient Freeholders' Wood near the falls on Sunday, August 4.
The area have been the backdrop for many TV series, like All Creatures Great and Small, and were the scene of the famous pole fight between Robin Hood and Little John in a recent Hollywood epic starring Kevin Cosner.
Rae Lonsdale, the park's volunteer co-ordinator, says: "It's time to pick up a shovel and push a barrow to help maintain and care for the footpaths of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It'll be a hard work, but rewarding, and there'll be an early finish so you can enjoy a well-earned rest beside the falls."
