New boost for Dales apprentices

Monday 24 February 2003

YOUNG people wanting to make a career in the countryside are being invited to apply for four apprenticeships being created by the Yorkshire Dales National Park - and another dozen may soon be available from a local charity.

The national park scheme starts on April 1 and interested youngsters are invited to contact Josie Simpson, (support officer for southern region) by calling (01756) 752748 or email: info@yorkshiredales.org.uk

In the meantime, the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust is hoping to create a dozen more apprenticeships, which many observers believe are vital in providing a future for young people who otherwise might be forced to move away to find work (see A week in the country).

The trust is working to raise funding for their scheme, which is planned to start in September. More details will be available in April.
