CPRE rallying cry on planning reform
Thursday 07 February

THE Council for the Protection of Rural England today issued a rallying cry to raise support amongst people opposed to the Government's proposed new planning legislation.

There are now only six weeks left to oppose proposals under the new planning green paper - official title Planning: delivering a fundamental change - and the CPRE is urging opponents to make their feelings known.

Although the council has welcomed some of the proposals, it is deeply worried that major planning enquiries will be taken out of the hands of local councils and handed instead to the newly created regional development bodies like Yorkshire Forward.

Says CPRE head of planning Henry Oliver: "Everyone who cares about the future of the countryside should act before it is too late. Speak out now and persuade the Government it has got it badly wrong."

The council is urging people to write to their MPs in protest. For more information, see www.cpre.org.uk
