WITH a new financial year upon us, the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise are to continue to give support to businesses and individuals affected by the foot and mouth disease - a decision that has been warmly welcomed by the Country Landowners and Business Association.
"This is most helpful to people in Yorkshire, and we could, in fact, claim some responsibility for the announcement," says Dorothy Fairburn, regional director for the CLA in Yorkshire.
"We have consistently reminded the Government that there are enduring problems post foot and mouth disease, and that the Revenue must continue not only to listen to people in trouble, but also to invite them to talk.
"What is good to know is the fact that a seven-day a week helpline is being provided and that during the period from Monday to Friday it is open 12 hours a day."
People facing income tax or VAT difficulties as a result of FMD should ring the helpline: 0845 300 0157.
