A HOT-LINE set up by the NFU to help beleaguered farmers sell Christmas turkeys by bypassing the big supermarket chains is doing brisk business.

The line was set up three weeks ago and has already attracted orders for more than 500 birds worth some £18,000 - and the Christmas buying season is barely underway.

Would-be purchasers, or farmers wanting to sell turkeys, should ring 0870 8481430, Monday to Friday, until Christmas Eve.
